Fossilised Tree Stump

Located opposite the Major Mitchell Memorial in the median strip on Shamrock Street is the fossilised tree stump which was found on a local property.

The stump  is a conifer and is related to the hoop pines of today. The wood has been preserved by silicification.

No one is sure how old it is with estimates ranging from one million to 225 million years old.
